Enrollment for Leadership Montrose is UnderwayLeadership Montrose is the ideal program for preparing the leaders of tomorrow. During the nine-month program, participants get an in-depth view of the inner workings of our community, community issues, develop leadership skills necessary to assume leadership roles, and are exposed to community involvement opportunities. Leadership Montrose is unlike other programs because it provides participants with the opportunity to meet and discuss issues with key community leaders. Participants study the qualities that make an effective leader, analyze individual leadership roles, and develop personal leadership styles and skills. They are then encouraged to apply their talents by joining professional associations, civic clubs, public boards and commissions.Class begins Friday, September 19 and will be held the third Friday of each month. Additional program details can be found at http://www.montrosechamber.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=5 or call the Chamber of Commerce at 249-5000. ... See MoreSee Less

DMEA Receives Safety RecognitionPhoto-DMEA Board President, Olen Lund congratulates DMEA Operations Manager, Doug Cox and DMEA Safety and Regulatory Compliance Administrator, Jim Thate for tallying another year of operations with no lost time due to accidents. The award is courtesy of the Colorado Rural Electric Association (CREA).(MONTROSE CO 8-28-14) Our modern world has been built on one of nature's most dangerous forces-electricity. Every minute, our electric industry generates massive amounts of electric power and distributes it to consumers across the country. As an electric distribution cooperative, Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) employs numerous individuals who face dangers on a constant basis. It is for this reason that safety is DMEA's undisputed highest priority. The focus that DMEA places on its safe practices can be measured. To do this, DMEA voluntarily submits to safety initiatives like the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP). The premise for this program is that safety must be embraced as a core value where the actions and decisions of the cooperative reflect a fundamental and unwavering commitment to safety at all levels and that cooperative leaders and employees take ownership of the systems and processes that create a safe working environment. In order to achieve an excellent rating, DMEA must:* Adopt the guiding principles of the program* Participate in the formal three-year cycle safety program assessment led by the statewide association safety professional or other supporting safety personnel and NRECA* Develop an annual safety improvement plan* Provide an annual update of cooperative safety performance measures per the national program guidelinesBecause of DMEA's commitment to satisfying all these requirements, it has achieved RESAP certification since 2007. DMEA has also been recognized by the Colorado Rural Electric Association (CREA) statewide safety program as having one of the best safety programs in the state. Most recently, DMEA was recognized by CREA for operating for not having any lost-time or restricted-time accidents in 2013. In actuality, DMEA has operated for two years with no lost-time or restricted-time accidents since July of 2012. (see picture)There's no doubt about it: Distributing electrical power to our communities is a dangerous job. But your distribution cooperative, DMEA, is committed to compliance with state and national safety programs that help it work with wisdom and prudence. ... See MoreSee Less
