Public to Tour New LDS Chapel and Meetinghouse

Special to the Mirror

MONTROSE – The public is invited to tour the newly completed chapel and meet- inghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Public tours will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 and will begin at 3 p.m. with the final tour of the evening commencing at 6 p.m. The meet- inghouse is located at the northeast corner of US Highway 550 and Uncompahgre Road. People of all ages, faiths, and back-

grounds are welcome to attend. The meetinghouse will serve many mem-

bers of the Church who reside in Montrose, Ridgway, Ouray, and surrounding areas. The 18,000 square-foot meetinghouse, constructed of brick veneer and stucco, is unique in its design and is only the second of this style to be built in the world. It consists of a chapel that seats approximate- ly 250 persons, a large cultural hall and stage for sports and cultural activities, 15

classrooms, four offices and features an open-air courtyard. Uplifting artwork is displayed throughout the building.

Additionally, the site and building incor- porate elements that promote resource con- servation such as classroom and restroom occupancy sensors and an irrigation “smart” controller. The plans for this par- ticular building allow for future expansion and are complemented with extensive land- scaping and a separate outdoor pavilion.
